John Schuermann

John Schuermann is an award winning composer who has written the music scores for over half a dozen feature films shot in Colorado and elsewhere.  John specializes in giving even low budget features a big budget sound by composing large scale symphonic works that have the sound of large scale Hollywood productions.  At the same time, John is versatile and can compose more intimate scores as well as in the jazz / pop / electronic idiom.

John's philosophy is one of collaboration - of working with the director and producer to acheive the correct sound and emotional subtext for the specific production.  Since music is often one of the key factors in creating emotion in a motion picture, John understands how making sure that the director and composer are on the same page before even creating the score is key to mutually satisfactory end result.  As a filmmaker himself, John truly understands the needs of the director / producer and is extremely knowledgeable about the proper role of music in film.  In fact, John often teaches classes about the history of film music and how various scoring techniques can effect the audiences perceptions of time, emotion, and character / situational subtext.
